42. NOBUO OKAWA, "8821012", 1988
mezzotint print, print area 32 x 19.5 cm

20 copper plates, yellow, red, blue and black

My most ambitious project so far. This began as an attempt to overcome my arachnophobia.
Originally, the flower, the spider and the moth were on a single format, but I decided it was far too overcrowded. The next idea was to have three separate plates; the flower panel, the spider panel and the moth panel. However I felt that it was too symmetrical. Then the idea of a blank panel came as well as an extra panel for the tip of the curled leaf.

Made in 1988, 2 spiral petals, 1 spiral on the tip of the leaf, no spiral, 1 spiral on the proboscis of the moth and 2 spiral patterns on the back of the spider. Over an hour to prepare the inks, two hours to ink all 20 plates and two hours to print. I am still terrified of spiders.
