SOFA Chicago

at Navy Pier, Chicago

6 - 8 November 2009

Galerie Besson is delighted to be returning to SOFA Chicago this year with a strong group of work by fourteen international artists.

Shozo Michikawa

Joining us at the fair will be Japanese artist SHOZO MICHIKAWA. Shozo's exhibition at Galerie Besson in July-August this year was extremely popular, and we are excited to be presenting some new, unseen works by Shozo at SOFA Chicago. Shozo will be giving both a slide lecture in the VIP lounge and a booth talk during the fair. (Contact us for more information).

New work by Danish artist ANNE FLØCHE will also be on show. Anne's expressive earthenware ceramics are decorated in matt pastels, golds and monochromatic hues. Her latest works have a strong architectural influence and include a series of small 'buildings'.

DEIRDRE HAWTHORNE has also prepared a new series of her delicate and sensitive pots for SOFA. Deirdre often incorporates found objects into her work, such as dried flowers, pins and tacks.

CLAUDI CASANOVAS will be represented by three exciting new ceramic works - from his recent "Field of Urns" series. This installation, currently running in the gallery in London, has provoked some fascinating reactions from critics, clients and potters alike. The three individual urns on show at SOFA have never been exhibited before.

As always we will also be bringing some fine examples of the works of 20th century greats HANS COPER and LUCIE RIE, including an exceptional Spade form by Coper from the mid 1960's.

Works by PETER COLLINGWOOD, RUTH DUCKWORTH, SHOJI HAMADA, KAREN KARNES, GWYN HANSSEN PIGOTT, ALEV SIESBYE, RIITTA TALONPOIKA and HOWARD SMITH will complete our presentation.
